Data we process
GPX file contents. When you load a track, the file is read exclusively by your browser through the FileReader API. XML parsing, distance and elevation computations, map and profile rendering all run inside the tab. No file content is transmitted to any server, nor stored anywhere. Closing the tab wipes the track from memory.
Browsing data. Subject to your consent, Google collects technical data (pseudonymous identifier, pages visited, device type, truncated IP address) for audience measurement (Google Analytics 4) and ad delivery (Google AdSense). Details in the Cookies section below.
Map tiles. Rendering the map fetches tiles from OpenStreetMap servers, which temporarily log your IP address in accordance with their privacy policy.
Cookies
GPXchunk sets no first-party cookies. The cookies listed below are set by third-party services, and only after your consent through the Google Funding Choices banner (visitors in the EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland):
- Audience measurement — Google Analytics 4 (
_ga,_ga_*): aggregated traffic statistics. Lifespan: up to 13 months. - Advertising — Google AdSense and related networks (
__gads,__gpi,IDE,NID, cookies set bydoubleclick.netandgooglesyndication.com): ad serving, frequency capping, performance measurement. Lifespan: up to 24 months. - Consent — Google Funding Choices (
FCCDCF,FCNEC): stores your consent preferences so the banner does not reappear every visit. Lifespan: 13 months.
As long as no consent is given, Consent Mode v2 is set to denied for advertising and analytics storage — Google scripts load but do not drop identifying cookies.
Google AdSense advertising
GPXchunk is free and funded by Google AdSense slots placed in the page margins — never inside the reader (map, elevation profile, measures).
Depending on your choice in the consent banner:
- With consent — personalised ads may be shown, based on your browsing activity and the IAB TCF v2.2 framework.
- Without consent — only non-personalised ads are shown, relying solely on the context of the visited page.
These operations may involve data transfers to the United States. Google is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and relies on Standard Contractual Clauses to cover such transfers. See Google's privacy policy and their “How Google uses cookies for advertising” page for more detail.
